Towns and Cities

In provincial towns and cities (all towns and cities beyond Budapest), mostly scheduled local bus services make up public transportation. Trams are also running in some major cities.

The fares are set by the municipalities and vary from town to town, however, they are about the same as in Budapest. The single ticket is usually the only ticket type available besides passes. You can buy it at the central bus station and news agents for the regular price or at the bus driver at an extra charge (usually 25-30% more). The ticket must be validated, when you get in. Some bus companies may require passengers to get in at the front door, so the driver can check the validation of the tickets.

Services in provincial cities and towns run less frequently than in Budapest.
